The picture above depicts the new base alignment. This alignment is chosen so the runner should have an open running lane to the ORANGE base. The defender also has the ability to catch a ball thrown to the WHITE base and NOT get in the runner’s path. If a defender blocks or impedes the runner’s ability to reach the orange base, the runner is safe (Head Ref’s discretion). A runner cannot hit a white base at 2nd or 3rd, they must touch the orange base to be considered safe.
Defenders: ALWAYS USE THE WHITE BASES.
Runners: ALWAYS RUN TO THE ORANGE BASES.
ONE EXCEPTION: To avoid a dangerous collision. If a defender is mistakenly on the wrong base do not blow through the defender, instead go to the adjacent white base so everyone gets to go home safe.
